This is a super simple recipe and I thought it actually tasted better then regular chili dogs because the chili has a chance to really soak into the buns while baking. This will be a regular on our weekend menus.
If you haven't already been by to see Tonya's blog, please do stop by soon; it's amazing! Tell her I said "Hi"!
Here's what you need:
8 all beef hot dogs
8 hot dog buns
2-15oz. cans chili con carne without beans, I used Hormel
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 yellow onion, finely diced
mayonnaise
mustard
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Spread each bun with mayonnaise and mustard (as much as you want; but don't skip this step because it makes all the difference in flavor) then add the hot dog to the bun. Squeeze them into a 9 x 13 baking dish. If I had gone longways they probably would have fit better, lol. Oh well there's always next time.
Pour the chili over the top of the hot dogs and spread out to cover. Top with cheese and diced onion.
Cover with tin foil and bake for 45 minutes.
Uncover and bake an addition few minute to crisp up the cheese if you like or just remove from oven and serve now :)
Not the prettiest of foods but definitely one of the tastiest!
Serves 4 - 8 depending on how many dogs you eat!
Enjoy!
