Creative Thursday Link Party No. 35

Welcome to Creative Thursday Link Party No. 35

How is everyone surviving the hustle and bustle of being in the first week of December?

I swear every time I think I'm going to get ahead I end up farther behind!

For those of you who know me personally you'll already know this, but for the rest of you I'll give you a little back story.  My son Justin was in a PE football accident two years ago and ended up with a severely ruptured spleen and had to have it removed and spent 8 days in the hospital.

My hubby and I have tried to get him to realize he now has a compromised immune system but you know 16 year old boys, when he's healthy he thinks he's invincible and when he catches the least little cold it turns into a major infection in his body most of the time.   Justin told me on Sunday night he was getting a sore throat so I took him to the doctor on Monday and they did an instant strep test which came back negative and said the usually ~ gargle with salt water, plenty of fluids, yada, yada, yada.  Come back if it gets worse in the next few days.

So by today, after two days of fever and being barely able to breath or swallow I took him back because he's worse, right?  I finally get from a different doctor in the same practice that because he doesn't have a spleen this is bound to be the result of getting sick (we've been saying that for two years and they kept denying it) and that now his Mono is back and he will be off school for 1 - 2 weeks.  On antibiotics, steroids, and antacids! This poor kid can't catch a break.

Back to being behind!  I put the tree up on Monday and have been trying to decorate it for three days now and my daughter Jessica finally helped me this afternoon and it's mostly done now, whew!

How is your December progressing?

  2. Wow! As a mother of three young boys who play football, your story scares me! As for dealing with the added workload of the holidays, I treated myself to a maid today. Now my house is fully decorated (via the family) and spotless (via the lovely cleaning crew). It was the best Christmas present I've given myself!

  7. Your poor son. Hope he is better very soon. I wish some doctors would take more notice of mums instead of dismissing them. Thanks for hosting and all your recipes sound delicious.
