Crescent Skillet Apple Pie

A few weeks ago I had a hankering for apple pie but didn't want to make a traditional one, so I opened up my fridge and took a peek at what was inside.  This is the super easy totally yummy dessert I came up with.  It has all the flavor of a traditional pie but none of the hassle.  Give it a try and let me know what you think :)
Here's what you need:

4 large Granny Smith apples
3-4 Tbs. butter, unsalted, at room temperature
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 Tbs. flour
1 tube crescent rolls

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a 10" oven safe skillet melt the butter over medium heat.

Peel and slice all the apples and add to the melted butter.  Next add the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg and stir to coat.

Cook on medium until the apples get a little soft, about 10 minutes.  Add the flour and stir and cook until slightly thickened, about 3-5 minutes.

Unroll the tube of crescents and place over the apples covering all the filling, Pinching the seams and pressing the sides down the pan.
Bake for 15 - 18 minutes or until golden brown.

Allow to cool a few minutes in the pan then take a spatula and run it around the outside edge to loosen the crescents.  Invert a plate that more than covers the pan and flip the whole thing over so the pan is on top.  You might need a spatula to help start it, but it should just pop out of the pan.

Mmmmmm, serve warm with vanilla ice cream or all by itself.  All the yummy taste of real apple pie with none of the hassle.

Enjoy!

  2. I'm terrible at pie crusts, so I'm always looking for alternatives and this looks great! We have tons of apples on our tree this year, so I'll definitely be trying this!
