My in-laws were just here for a few days and my Mother-in-law was asking me if I knew what this cake was that she had just had at a party. So I asked her what was in it and when she told me I said "That's a Dump Cake" and I went about making one for dessert last night.
Here's what you need:
1 box yellow cake mix, any brand, I use Betty Crocker
1 (21 oz. approx) can cherry pie filling
1 (20 oz. approx) crushed pineapple with juice
1-1/2 sticks butter, sliced into 1/4" pieces approx.
1 cup coconut, I use sweetened but unsweetened will be fine, optional
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Okay here is where the cake got it's name....in a 9 x 13 "dump" the cherry pie filling and pineapple with juice and mix until incorporated.
After it's combined sprinkle the cake mix evenly over the top of the filling and spread out with a fork.
When the cake mix is spread out evenly, slice the butter and cover the cake mix.If using coconut, sprinkle 1 cup over the top of the butter and bake for 45 minutes - 1 hour. Mine took about 50 minutes.
This is the most Amazing dessert and has to be one of the easiest to put together. My house had the most unbelievably sweet smell when this was cooking, we couldn't wait for it to come out of the oven.
Serve by itself or with ice cream or whipping cream.
Serves 12 - 16
Enjoy!
~Hugs~
