I grew up in a family of definite bakers from my grandmother on my Mom's side to my Mom and Aunt. Thankfully this treasure of being able to bake was also passed down to my brother and me.
I love Fall and all it encompasses, the colors, the smells, the flavors all warm my heart this time of year.
I especially love apples. I love to make Homemade Apple Sauce, Apple Pie, and my Oatmeal Caramel Apple Pie Bars, but I think my favorite is Apple Crisp.
Apple Crisp is a super simple dessert to prepare and can be baking in the oven as you sit down to eat dinner, making the whole house smell like warm, apple spicy goodness. Mmm mmm.
Nothing beats a warm homemade dessert after a long day at the office.
If you have a few apples on hand try one tonight!
Here's what you need:
4 large apples (I used Fuji) peeled and thinly sliced
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 Tbs. flour
Topping
1 cup quick cooking oatmeal
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
a pinch of salt
1/2 cup cold butter, cut into cubes
Pre heat oven to 375 degrees. Spray an 8x8 baking dish with cooking spray and set aside.
Wash, dry and peel the apples. Slice thinly and put in a medium bowl with sugar, spices, and flour.
Mix well and pour into the prepared baking dish.
Make the topping by placing the oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt in a bowl and stir until combined.
Add cubed butter and cut in with a pastry cutter or press between your fingers until it is all crumbly.
Pour on top of the sliced apples and pat down with your hand.
Bake for 50 - 60 minutes or until the top is golden and the apple are fork tender.
Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream or both!
Serves 4-6
Enjoy!
